Diablo Mask 1
During the Carnaval de Tlatenpan indigenous peoples wear masks satirizing archetypes of the Colonial Era in festive processions and dances. European religious icons appear with great frequency. Angels, Saints and Devils are emblematic of the carnival celebrations of southern Mexico. Often these pieces incorporate eyelashes, porcupine quills and animal horns.
